Valley Ridge park is located in the Upper Glen Abbey Greens area of West Oak Trails. It’s at the corner of Valley Ridge Drive and Highvalley Road just a block west of Bronte Road (Highway 25). Having recently been built in a new development, the park is clean and well-kept, the equipment all in great shape and of the latest design and features. The park also has a soccer field and the kids coming and going between games took full advantage of the playground area. I was there with my two young children (aged 5 and 2) last weekend and the playground was jam-packed with kids. Like most parks, Valley Ridge is linked to Oakville’s system of walking and nature trails but also has the added advantage of being located near the Bronte Creek Provincial Park which means the area has lots of natural spaces and wildlife to capture kids imaginations. The playground itself is fantastic and gets rave reviews from both my kids. With a variety of equipment, there was plenty to do for kids of all ages.
The attractions are designed well-enough that I could let my 2 year old wander around by herself without worry of injury. The entire playground area has a “padded” surface that is spongy enough to avoid skinned knees (and means the kids don’t have to dump sand out of their shoes before they get in the van!)
There are 4 big swings and 4 small ones. A toddler sized jungle gym is perfect for little ones and for the more adventurous there’s a larger multi-leveled version. A large winding climber is great for the older crowd. The whole park has a jungle theme complete with palm trees. For the hot summer months, the park has a huge splash area with hippos spraying and a giant elephant that soaks the kids running underneath. There’s also a large gazebo in which to retreat from the sun and plenty of benches around the perimeter for parents to sit and chat while watching the kids play. With plenty of parking, it’s also easy to get to.
Valley Ridge sets a high standard. Check it out, and enjoy!
